Weblink 17.1 The Gibbs energy as a function of composition

This applet shows how the Gibbs energy of a mixture varies as the composition goes from 100% reactants (on the left) to 100% products (on the right).

The miniumum in the Gibbs energy (the red line) corresponds to the position of equilibrium. The value of the equilibrium constant K and the change in Gibbs energy DrGo are given on the dials on the right.

  • Use the slider on the left to change the Gibbs energy or pure reactants, and that on the right to alter the Gibbs energy of the pure products.
