Weblink 14.5 The structure of solid SnO

Tin atoms are coloured pale green and oxygen atoms are red. The structure is built up from SnO4 square-based pyramidal units, which share along edges to form layers. Note that the tin atoms fall on either side of the layer. These layers then pack on one another in the crystal.

  • Click and drag to rotate the structure; shift_click and drag to zoom
  • Select the size of the atoms with the radio buttons.
  • Use the drop-down menu to select which molecule to view
